Books we love : Cataloging the World: Paul Otlet and the Birth of the Information Age by Alex Wright.

Why did you read this book?

I read it because I was curious and thought it could be interesting from a professional standpoint. We consider the company a visionary of the internet so I wanted to learn more about the business’s history.

Can you summarize the book in a few sentences?

This is the story of Paul Otlet, now considered one of the pioneers of computer science. His projects came from peaceful and humanistic convictions. Around 1934, he envisioned a knowledge sharing network similar to what we now know as the Internet.

What do you like about the book?

I liked that the author was objective and not complacent. I also liked the parallels he drew about the way we use and manage information today.
